3.1 Rules and advice
When ships under engine meet, the ship that has the other ship on the right side gives way. If possible and not declared otherwise, you should always drive on the right side of a waterway.
Always respect the speed limit that is given in your harbor. In your Hafenskipper 2 harbor, 3.0 knots are allowed. In any case, you need to adjust the speed to the specific circumstances and that means: You need to always be able to stop the ship in front of any other object that might appear in your way.
Note:
Before you enter a harbor with your ship, you should inform yourself whether the depth of the water is sufficient for the draft of your ship. In the Hafenskipper 2 harbor the depth of the water is always sufficient.
Especially in the harbor, you need to always make sure you have enough room for maneuvering. The ship is propelled and steered at the stern but it turns around the center of gravity, so the bow and stern pivot out. If the distance to an object is no longer sufficient, the boat cannot be maneuvered and without help you don’t get out of the situation. The only countermeasure is “look ahead driving” to avoid those situations.
3.2 Harbor map

3.3 Mooring
You are able to moor the ship in the free running mode and some training levels. That enables you to practice docking maneuvers where strong winds require you to work with lines.
We will show you how the lines work in four steps:
- Touch the boat to activate the cleats, drag the rope from the cleat on the ship to the bollard on the pier.
- Pull the line from the cleat on the boat towards the desired bollard on the pier or one of the piles. At first these appear green, when the correct distance is reached, the color changes to blue.
- Now you can pull the line in, secure the line or let the line out.
- To untie the ship, press the bollard/cleat on the pier or the cleat symbol.
